The Bright Star

In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

bis'mi l-lahi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīm

By the sky and Al-Taareq.

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

wal-samāi wal-ṭāriq

Do you know what Al-Taareq is?

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ

wamā adrāka mā l-ṭāriq

The bright star.

ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ

al-najmu l-thāqib

Absolutely, everyone is well guarded.

إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ

in kullu nafsin lammā ʿalayhā ḥāfiẓu

Let the human reflect on his creation.

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

falyanẓuri l-insānu mimma khuliq

He was created from ejected liquid.

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍ

khuliqa min māin dāfiqi

From between the spine and the viscera.

يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

yakhruju min bayni l-ṣul'bi wal-tarāib

He is certainly able to resurrect him.

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌ

innahu ʿalā rajʿihi laqādiru

The day all secrets become known.

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

yawma tub'lā l-sarāir

He will have no power, nor a helper.

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ

famā lahu min quwwatin walā nāṣiri

By the sky that returns (the water).

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ

wal-samāi dhāti l-rajʿ

By the earth that cracks (to grow plants).

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ

wal-arḍi dhāti l-ṣadʿ

This is a serious narration.

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ

innahu laqawlun faṣlu

Not to be taken lightly.

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ

wamā huwa bil-hazl

They plot and scheme.

إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا

innahum yakīdūna kayda

But so do I.

وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا

wa-akīdu kayda

Just respite the disbelievers a short respite.

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا

famahhili l-kāfirīna amhil'hum ruwayda
