The Event

In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

bis'mi l-lahi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīm

What are they questioning?

عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

aamma yatasaaloona

The great event.

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

aani alnnaba-i alAAatheemi

That is disputed by them.

ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ

alladhī hum fīhi mukh'talifūn

Indeed, they will find out.

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

kallā sayaʿlamūn

Most assuredly, they will find out.

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

thumma kallā sayaʿlamūn

Did we not make the earth habitable?

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَٰدًا

alam najʿali l-arḍa mihāda

And the mountains stabilizers?

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا

wal-jibāla awtāda

We created you as mates (for one another).

وَخَلَقْنَٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا

wakhalaqnākum azwāja

We created sleeping so you can rest.

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا

wajaʿalnā nawmakum subāta

We made the night a cover.

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا

wajaʿalnā al-layla libāsa

And the day to seek provisions.

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا

wajaʿalnā l-nahāra maʿāsha

We built above you seven universes.

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا

wabanaynā fawqakum sabʿan shidāda

We created a bright lamp.

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا

wajaʿalnā sirājan wahhāja

We send down from the clouds pouring water.

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا

wa-anzalnā mina l-muʿ'ṣirāti māan thajjāja

To produce with it grains and plants.

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا

linukh'rija bihi ḥabban wanabāta

And various orchards.

وَجَنَّٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا

wajannātin alfāfa

The Day of Decision is appointed.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتًا

inna yawma l-faṣli kāna mīqāta

The day the horn is blown, and you come in throngs.

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا

yawma yunfakhu fī l-ṣūri fatatūna afwāja

The heaven will be opened like gates.

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا

wafutiḥati l-samāu fakānat abwāba

The mountains will be removed, as if they were a mirage.

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا

wasuyyirati l-jibālu fakānat sarāba

Gehenna is inevitable.

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا

inna jahannama kānat mir'ṣāda

For the transgressors; it will be their abode.

لِّلطَّٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا

lilṭṭāghīna maāba

They stay in it for ages.

لَّٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا

lābithīna fīhā aḥqāba

They never taste in it coolness, nor a drink.

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا

lā yadhūqūna fīhā bardan walā sharāba

Only an inferno, and bitter food.

إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا

illā ḥamīman waghassāqa

A just requital.

جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا

jazāan wifāqa

They never expected to be held accountable.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا

innahum kānū lā yarjūna ḥisāba

And utterly rejected our signs.

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا

wakadhabū biāyātinā kidhāba

We counted everything in a record.

وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَٰهُ كِتَٰبًا

wakulla shayin aḥṣaynāhu kitāba

Suffer the consequences; we will only increase your retribution.

فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا

fadhūqū falan nazīdakum illā ʿadhāba

The righteous have deserved a reward.

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا

inna lil'muttaqīna mafāza

Orchards and grapes.

حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَٰبًا

ḥadāiqa wa-aʿnāba

Magnificent spouses.

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا

wakawāʿiba atrāba

Delicious drinks.

وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا

wakasan dihāqa

They will never hear in it any nonsense or lies.

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا

lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan walā kidhāba

A reward from your Lord; a generous recompense.

جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا

jazāan min rabbika ʿaṭāan ḥisāba

Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them. The Most Gracious. No one can abrogate His decisions.

رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا

rabbi l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā baynahumā l-raḥmāni lā yamlikūna min'hu khiṭāba

The day will come when the Spirit and the angels will stand in a row. None will speak except those permitted by the Most Gracious, and they will utter only what is right.

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا

yawma yaqūmu l-rūḥu wal-malāikatu ṣaffan lā yatakallamūna illā man adhina lahu l-raḥmānu waqāla ṣawāba

Such is the inevitable day. Whoever wills let him take refuge in his Lord.

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا

dhālika l-yawmu l-ḥaqu faman shāa ittakhadha ilā rabbihi maāba

We have sufficiently warned you about an imminent retribution. That is the day when everyone will examine what his hands have sent forth, and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish I were dust."

إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا

innā andharnākum ʿadhāban qarīban yawma yanẓuru l-maru mā qaddamat yadāhu wayaqūlu l-kāfiru yālaytanī kuntu turāba
